Kalkan, nestling in the foothills of the Taurus Mountains was once a small, almost deserted fishing village. However over the last 20 years it has developed a reputation as a refined resort town attracting discerning visitors in search of good food, fine wines, friendly cosmopolitan atmosphere and the best climate Turkey has to offer.
The bougainvillea strewn old town, with its cobbled streets is a beautiful mix of restored pensions, stress free shopping and has over 150 restaurants & bars (mainly located around the harbour and on the rooftops of the old fishermen’s houses) serving food from Turkish delicacies to the most modern European cuisine. You can eat, with a view of the harbour & the Aegean or under the bright Turkish moon.
In addition to walks around the town, Kalkan has a busy harbour and a stone beach with clear waters.
Kalkan Bay is surrounded by beach clubs with bathing platforms where you can hire a sun bed and enjoy food and drink within touching distance of the sea.
A wide variety of water-sports (snorkelling, scuba diving, jet skis, water skiing, banana boats etc) are available from most beach clubs. Water Taxis from the harbour will deliver you to the club of your choice and bring you back at the end of the day.
Try Kalamar Beach Club, Olympus and Yali Beach, Mahal, Lykia, Patara and Yacht Club beach clubs, all of which are reached by boat shuttle from the harbour and have great views and facilities.
The Old Town comes alive in the evening and Kalkan has earned itself a reputation for refined night life and exquisite gastronomic delights over the years and now has the finest selection of restaurants outside of the major Turkish cities.
